Planning Meeting for Phase II of the Africa-Asia University Dialogue for Basic Education Development Project (the A-A Dialogue Project)
| The Planning Meeting for Phase II of the Africa-Asia University Dialogue for Basic Education Development Project (the A-A Dialogue Project) was held at Hiroshima International Plaza in Higashi-Hiroshima, Japan from May 20 to 22, 2008. The purpose of the meeting was to come up with a plan for Phase II of the A-A Dialogue Project on the basis of reflections on Phase I, and the meeting came to a successful conclusion including putting forward more concrete steps. Invited to take part in the meeting were representatives of 12 African research teams (Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Niger, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia) and Asian researchers (India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam)together with representatives of UNESCO, UNU, and JICA. |

Africa-Asia University Dialogue for Basic Education Development Project (A-A Dialogue Project) introduced at the TICAD IV-Yokohama Action Plan
The Fourth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD IV) was held from May28-30, 2008 in Yokohama. The “Yokohama Action Plan” is designed to provide a road map for the support of growth and development in Africa.
The A-A Dialogue Project, implemented by CICE, Hiroshima University in cooperation with UNESCO, JICA and UNU, was introduced as one of the Japanese contributions to African Development in the Appendix of the “Yokohama Action Plan” (p. 9). It was only case of university contribution mentioned in the Action Plan.
