TitleImpact of Climate Variation on Food Security in India: A State-wise Panel Data Analysis

Abstract】Climate change brings serious threat at global level as around 12 million hectares of agricultural land gets seriously degraded each year due to frequent droughts and flooding. With more than 1.2 billion people being undernourished globally, and 850 million persons remaining malnourished in developing countries, any loss of arable land and its productivity poses serious threat to the food security of developing country populations. In addition to agricultural productivity the level of food security also depends on factors such as income of the people; education and employment level; urbanization; and livestock population and production of animal products, etc. The main objective of this paper is to generate state-wise food security index utilizing its major components such as availability, stability and accessibility of food; and to analyze impact of climate variability on food security.
