    "Contemporary regional development in India"

The orientation of the lecture was to do an assessment of regional policy during planning period and how urban biased policy decision has resulted into imbalances in India’s regional development. It also depicted a picture of contemporary regional development which started after Structural reform year 1991. Assessment of contemporary regional development and growing regional disparities were analyzed focusing on all three sectors of economy Agriculture, Manufacturing & Industry and Services along with India’s performance on some indicators of Human Development Index. Throughout the lecture participants received it patiently. They all took keen interest in knowing India’s regional diversities and throwing some light on region/area specific planning to minimize growing regional disparities. The participant’s full involvement in Question and Answer session and their quarry hovering on increasing gap between rich and poor states rightly justify the purpose of HINDAS as a center to promote area studies in contemporary India. Interaction with senior researchers working on various issues in India such as Industrial development, Minority issues, Forest and community, Metropolitan Environment and Health, Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) and related issues in Bihar also gave me opportunity to learn from their experiences.
