On the great east Japan earthquake

First of all, we wish to express our deepest sympathy to all those who have been affected by the big earthquake and tsunami which struck the Pacific coast of the northeastern region of Japan on March 11, 2011.

We provide following information especially for participants from foreign countries. The distance from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant to Miyajima-island in Hiroshima (L) is about 900km (for example see this by zooming out), while the evacuation zone is restricted within 30km from the power plant. Just in case, the radiation dose rate measured in Hiroshima can be found here . The data indicate that the effect of the incidents in the power plant is negligible in Hiroshima. We would like to ask all participants to show your academic activities together with us in the west side of Japan in order to dispel the rumors or incorrect impressions from a scientifc point of view. Your positive participations support and encourage us.
