I was graduated from Kobe University in 1986. My supervisor was Professor Fujitsugu Hosokawa, one of the pioneers of Knot Theory in Japan. Probably, you may know the Hosokawa polynomials of links. After I have gotten the doctoral degree from Kobe University in 1991, I worked at Kobe University as a research assistant for five years.This period was rough for me in a sense. Because my position was practically the custodian of the International Residence, although the position was formally the advisor. My working hours were 12:30 to 21:00 everyday. The Residence was 10 km away from the university, I seldom went to the university. Of course, there were lots of events and things that impressed me. In particular, I never forget Kobe Quake on January 17, 1995. That morning and the following two months.... Through the communications with foreign students and researchers, I think I learned many things. It can be said that the period was precious for my life, but rough for my research.

On April in 1996, I moved to Hiroshima University. In the first year, I was at the Department of Mathematics, but since 1997 I belong to the present department. In the thesis, I dealt with 2-knots in the 4-sphere, but I am interested in Dehn surgery recently.

From August 2, 1999 to March 30, 2000, I was visiting the University of Texas at Austin. I like Austin.
