Shinmoedake investigation and annular eclipse
(May 18-21, 2012)
Shiraishi visited Shinmoedake to assist a student with research as part of a Hi-Scientist training program. Although more than a year had passed since the eruption, pyroclastic fall deposits were still present.
We also observed the nearby wave-cut platform. It was interesting to see the flute casts.
Coincidentally, there was an annular solar eclipse during the survey period, so we also attempted to observe it. It was raining around Miyakonojo City on the day, but miraculously we managed to find a sunny spot.
During the annular eclipse, the sky was like evening. In any case, I was glad that the eclipse glasses I had purchased did not go to waste.
