Neoproterozoic investigation @Brazil
(Jan. 9-18, 2013)

Shiraishi visited Brazil to conduct additional research on the Neoproterozoic microbialites we had surveyed two years ago. As Brazil is located on the opposite side of the Earth from Japan, the travel time took more than 48 hours.
Local children sometimes gather around during the survey. The surrounding area is covered with thick terra rossa, a type of soil commonly found in limestone areas.
During our research, we often visited an Italian restaurant highly recommended by our guide, Nilo-san. The caipirinha was also delicious.
