| Together with Prof. Nakamori, Shiraishi investigated the reef deposits found on Amami Oshima. We discovered structures that could be called coralline algae reefs. | |

| Calcareous green algae such as Halimeda and Dasyclads were also commonly seen. | |

| We were also able to observe accretionary complex components that form the base of the island, such as basalt and melange. | |
