| The SCORE surface drilling program, using the deep-sea drilling vessel Chikyu, was conducted off Shikoku, and Shiraishi was able to participate as a researcher on board. Shiraishi boarded the ship from Shimizu Port. | |

| The drill cores obtained will be used for various analyses, but we used microelectrodes to monitor changes in core quality. As the cruise was taking place during the pandemic, we took every precaution, including wearing masks and washing our hands. | |
