Earth and Planetary Science Excursion A @Hiroshima and Shimane
(Sep. 25-28, 2022)

We are finally able to carry out in-person tours, but since we are still hesitant to stay overnight, we decided to make it a four-day day trip in Hiroshima and Shimane. On the first day, we climbed Mount Sanbe.
Afterwards, we visited a museum, including the buried forest. On the second day, we observed the Takada Rhyolite and other Cretaceous sedimentary rocks in the Kure and Higashihiroshima areas.
Clinometer practice on a concrete wall. On the third day we went to Shobara and Taishaku, but heavy rain prevented us from taking any decent photos. On the right is columnar jointing seen at Hinomisaki on the fourth day.
Finally, we observed the turbidites of the Ushikiri Formation at Koizu Coast. We also saw pillar structures formed during dehydration.
