Geological Society of Japan, West Japan Branch @Satsumasendai + Aira/Aso Excursion
(Mar. 1-4, 2024)

This year's Western Japan branch was held in Satsumasendai. We took the opportunity to observe the Ito pyroclastic flow deposits that are distributed in this area.
At the meeting, Shiraishi, Panday-san, Sasaki-san, and Kito-san gave presentations. Panday-san and Sasaki-san received the Outstanding Presentation Award. Congratulations!
The next day we visited the Aira Caldera. First we went to Sakurajima. Next, we looked at Sakurajima from the north and got a good view of the Aira Caldera.
We continued north and visited Takachiho Gorge, which is made up of Aso pyroclastic flow deposits. It was a very productive excursion, and I was able to take many photos that I could use in class.
