This year's Western Japan branch was held in
Satsumasendai. We took the opportunity to
observe the Ito pyroclastic flow deposits
that are distributed in this area. |

The next day we visited the Aira Caldera.
First we went to Sakurajima. Next, we looked
at Sakurajima from the north and got a good
view of the Aira Caldera. |

We continued north and visited Takachiho
Gorge, which is made up of Aso pyroclastic
flow deposits. It was a very productive
excursion, and I was able to take many
photos that I could use in class. |
