The 3rd Shiraishi Lab excursion @Shimane and Yamaguchi
(Mar. 18-20, 2025)

This year's Shiraishi Lab field trip started at a hot spring in Shimane. New discoveries were made around the geyser at Kibedani Hot Spring. By the time we reached the Shioido, the rain had become heavier.
By the time we were observing the columnar joints at Tatamigafuchi, the rain had turned to snow. In the lodge, we had BBQ by avoiding the strong winds.
The weather was rough the next day as well. We were unable to get close to the outcrop of Susa Hornfels. Akiyoshidai was also lightly covered in snow.
Observing fossils at the Mine City Fossil Collection Site. In the evening, we enjoy curry supervised by Panday-san.
In the morning, we observed the sedimentary structure of the Yuyawan Group. Afterwards, we moved to Shimonoseki and observed the limestone of the Toyonishi Group. We found traces of sample collection I had made over 20 years ago, and felt nostalgic for a while.
This year's excursion ended with the observation of shell fossils from the Toyonishi Group and paleosols from the Kanmon Group.
