M-FED 2025 @Hannover
(Sep. 29-Oct. 7, 2025)

M-FED, an international conference on microbialites, was held in Hannover, Germany, and Shiraishi gave a keynote talk. The photo shows the venue, Leibnizhaus.
There was also a poster session, with Pandey-san's poster being presented in his place as he was unable to attend in person. At the workshop, participants created their own customized microbial mats.
On the last day, we visited Heeseberg, the type locality of stromatolites. It had been 17 years since I last visited, but it was now overgrown with thorny plants.
On the way back, I visited Göttingen. It had been 17 years since I kissed this Gänseliesel to celebrate receiving my doctoral degree. I also investigated the tufa on the outskirts of town with my former supervisor.
Since I had some time before boarding my flight, I visited the Senckenberg Museum in Frankfurt. It displays valuable fossils, including an ichthyosaur fossil with skin marks.
I also visited the Goethe House and learned about Goethe's achievements as a geologist.
