Research Title

Establishment of international academic basis for functional enhancement of natural products toward healthy-aging and a treatment against tropical infectious diseases

Concept

Focusing on the microbial resources of Southeast Asian countries, we aim to discover lifespan-extending factors using yeast, nematodes, and mice, and to search for inhibitors of tropical infectious diseases. We aim to establish an international research hub focused on maintaining and promoting healthy longevity and combating tropical infectious diseases, which are expected to spread regionally due to global warming. This proposal involves multinational collaborative research with Indonesia, the Philippines, and Vietnam. Each of these partner country's core institutions is currently engaged in close bilateral exchanges with Japanese participants, and these existing exchanges will be used as a foundation for developing cross-disciplinary and multinational exchanges. This plan will establish a hub for exchange with these three countries, explore and develop sustainable biological resources, and elucidate and create new biological functions using diverse evaluation systems, with the aim of resolving common human challenges, such as healthy longevity and infectious disease control.
