Certain Fusarium spp produce the sphinganine toxin fumonisin B1 (FB1) that elicits cytolysis of plant and animal cells most probably through competitive inhibition of ceramide synthase、 a key enzyme in sphingolipid biosynthesis (Wang et al. 1996; Tolleson et al. 1999).
