Introduction of Western Architecture in Bakumatsu and
Meiji Japan
This
project involves the western style architecture built in Bakumatsu
and early Meiji Japan (1860-70s).
We
clarify not only the detail of design and construction technology of western
architecture but also the social background in the context of the nineteenth
century international framework.

2. Townhouses and Townscapes in the Chugoku Region
The laboratory is sometimes engaged in the architectural survey of
historic townhouses and townscapes for their conservation, restoration and
rehabilitation.
In these projects, we normally measure the floorplans and sections of
the particular buildings, then we examine the characteristic of building
structure making use of the data obtained from the architectural survey.
Additionally, making use of historic town plans and maps, we also
try to make the CG restoration of historic townscapes.

3. History of Modern Architecture in Hiroshima
Preservation of modern architecture are recently recognized as the
important issue.
The townscapes before the atomic bombing in Hiroshima also gathers
social interests.
Considering these social situation, this project is concerned with
the survey of existing modern buildings and CG reconstruction of demolished
buildings in modern Hiroshima.

4. Architectural Design of Modern Japanese Architects
This research aims at making clear the design concepts and methods
of the post-war architectural works in Japan.
Particularly, an architectural work is examined by means of CAD and
CG reconstruction, reference to architectural discourse, and comparison with
other works.
Additionally, we try to compare Japanese modern architecture with
the contemporary works overseas for the consideration of international
framework.
