WHOIは1930年創設、日本では昭和５年、歴史の教科書によれば昭和恐慌、もちろんアメリカでも恐慌の最中であったらしい。
そこからの歴史はみなさんもよくご存じだと思います。
WHOI・MBLの図書館には下のような展示物がある。
この張り紙は1945年の第二次大戦後に相模湾の東京大学海洋研究所の施設のドアに貼ってあった物らしい。
