ABSTRACT
For architectural design using computer graphics, it is required to accurately render outdoor scenes from various viewpoints under several kinds of weather conditions taking account of skylight. To solve the problem, a fast calculation method of skylight illuminance using a series of basis functions has been developed. In this paper, we propose a extended version of the method, that is, the proposed method can generate images quickly when changing not only a weather condition and a solar position but also a viewpoint. Improving a method for subdividing a surfaceinto patches, i.e., an adaptive subdivision follows surface subdivision along the boundary of a shadow area, the generated images are in high quality with fewer number of subdivided patches. An all-weather skylight illumination model makes it possible to generate outdoor scenes under various kinds of weather conditions. Several examples of outdoor scenes with a building demonstrate the usefulness of the proposed method.
