ABSTRACT
When rendering outdoor scenes for landscape evaluation, weathering textures mapped onto objects play an important role in creating realistic images. This paper presents a method for generating weathering textures containing water flow stains in a simple manner.
The proposed method calculates the tracks of water flow on approximated shapes of three-dimensional objects using a water droplet model with a discretized surface, and renders the stains by painting the tracks of water flow with dirt color. The natural stains corresponding to rugged surfaces and tiled wall patterns can be generated. Textures generated by the proposed method have been mapped onto electric power facilities and buildings to demonstrate the usefulness of the method.
