She will stay until the end of March 2017.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 90px;\">(2) Mr. Setyo Nugroho started his first-year doctoral program under the Taoyaka Program for creating a flexible, enduring, peaceful society, JSPS Program for Leading Graduate Schools.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 90px;\">(3) Mr. Atsushi Kokubo started his first-year master course, after finishing a one-year undergraduate course in our lab, affiliated with the Faculty of Engineering, Hiroshima University.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 90px;\">(4) Ms. Laura Walln\u00f6fer came to our lab and will stay here for half a year as an exchange student in the Joint Master Program of Sustainable Development between four European universities and Hiroshima University.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>2017.04.05:\u00a0Prof. Zhang will co-organize the International Choice Modelling Conference (ICMC) in Kobe, Japan in the late summer of 2019, with Prof. Toshiyuki Yamamoto, Nagoya University, and Assoc. During this meeting, Prof. Zhang partially handed over his ATS and Awarding Subcommittee job to Prof. Hironori Kato, The University of Tokyo. The journal of ATS was established by EASTS in 2009. Since then,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Prof. Zhang first worked as the associate editor of ATS and since 2011, he has been working as the editor-in-chief. During his term, he successfully invited a majority of editors-in-chief of major SCI\/SSCI transportation journals to be advisory board members of the ATS and several researchers who are productive in writing SCI\/SSCI papers. Currently, ATS has obtained a much better international reputation than before. Prof. Zhang will quit from this position in October, 2016.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;\">2016.07.19: A\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;\">Breakout Session #9 &#8220;<u><a href=\"http:\/\/www.automatedvehiclessymposium.org\/program\/breakouts\/breakout9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Methods for Assessing Market Acceptance, Adoption, and Usage of AVs<\/a><\/u>&#8221; at the\u00a0<u><a href=\"http:\/\/www.automatedvehiclessymposium.org\/program\/agenda\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Automated Vehicles Symposium 2016<\/a><\/u>\u00a0was organized, where Prof. Zhang was a co-organizer. During this session, ownership and usage of automated vehicles (or self-driving vehicles) in the future were discussed from a behavioral perspective.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #444444; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;\">Related to this, a special issue on\u00a0automated vehicles (or self-driving vehicles)\u00a0at Transportation Research Part A was just announced before the symposium.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>2016.07.15: Prof. Zhang invited <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ce.washington.edu\/people\/faculty\/faculty.php?id=50\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><u>Prof. Yinhai Wang, University of Washington<\/u><\/a>, to give a lecture on &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/taoyaka.hiroshima-u.ac.jp\/wptaoyaka\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/71thTAOYAKA-seminar_final.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><u>Toward Smart and Connected Communities: Challenges and Opportunities in Transportation<\/u><\/a>&#8221; at IDEC. This seminar was jointly organized as the 71th <u><a href=\"http:\/\/taoyaka.hiroshima-u.ac.jp\/english\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Taoyaka<\/a><\/u> Seminar (The Leading Program, Hiroshima University), the 322th IDEC Seminar, and the <u><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.google.com\/site\/asmocenter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">ASMO<\/a><\/u> Seminar as well as an International Seminar supported by Japan Society of Civil Engineers. Prof. Wang also served as an external reviewer of the doctoral dissertation examination committee for Ms. Ying JIANG.<\/li>\n<li>2016.07.13: Prof. Zhang made a presentation titled &#8220;Young people&#8217;s migration behavior in Japan: An analysis based on the life-oriented approach&#8221; at a special session &#8220;Young People on the Move&#8221; in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wctrs-conference.com\/conference-programme.asp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"color: #444444;\"><u>WCTRS2016 Shanghai Conference<\/u><\/span><\/a>. Since Prof. Zhang organized the workshop &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/annualmeeting.mytrb.org\/Workshop\/Details\/2471\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Young People\u2019s Life Choices and Travel Behavior<\/a>&#8221; at TRB2016 in January 2016, this special session is the second international gathering to discuss young people&#8217;s travel behavior associated with life choices.<\/li>\n<li>2016.07.11: Prof. Zhang chaired a session titled &#8220;Life Choice&#8221; in the <u><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wctrs-conference.com\/conference-programme.asp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">WCTRS2016 Shanghai Conference<\/a><\/u>. To my knowledge, this is the first time to have such a session on life choices in transportation conferences. Thus, the life-oriented approach has been attracting more and more attention from transportation researchers since the first workshop on the life-oriented approach in the IATBR2015 Conference.<\/li>\n<li>2016.07.07: Prof. Zhang made a call for papers &#8220;<u><a href=\"https:\/\/annualmeeting.mytrb.org\/CallForPapers\/Details\/340\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">A Life-oriented Approach to Understanding Young People\u2019s Activity-Travel Behavior<\/a><\/u>&#8220;, together with Dr. Juan Antonio Carrasco (Universidad de Concepci\u00f3n, Chile) and Dr. Karthik Konduri (University of Connecticut),\u00a0to\u00a0The Transportation Research Board (TRB) 96th Annual Meeting, Washington, D.C.,\u00a0January 8-12, 2017.<\/li>\n<li>2016.06.30 ~ 07.03: Prof. Zhang attended the 10th International Association for China Planning (IACP) Conference in Beijing and presented a research on rural migrant workers&#8217; job mobility and future settlement in Chinese cities.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #444444; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;\">2016.06.25 ~ 06.27: A joint seminar with The University of Tokyo was held in Shodo Island, Kagawa Prefecture. The island is famous for its olive products and the\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #444444; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;\">Angel Road, etc. B4, M2, D1, and D2 students joined the seminar and made presentations. This was also a good opportunity to experience regional revitalization issues and explore effective policies\u00a0in the context of\u00a0islands.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li>2016.06.24: Our lab organized a tour to visit the Hiroshima Ujina Port, the A-City, and Koyo Newtown together with JDS students. Especially, major officers of Hiroshima City and Prefecture as well as their collaborative organizations kindly accepted us to visit the port area under the heavy rain condition. The Ujina Port is the 6th largest port in Japan in transporting passengers (by the way, the Miyajima port is the largest one in Japan: more than 8.000,000 passengers)<\/li>\n<li>2016.06.01 ~ 06.04: Linghan Zhang attended the <u><a href=\"http:\/\/apta2016.wix.com\/index\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">APTA Beijing Conference<\/a><\/u>.
