COVID-19 has had a variety of impacts on the transport sector, such as the decline of passengers on public transport and airplanes, modal shift to private cars, the bankruptcy of public transport operators and airlines, and remarkable changes in logistics and supply chains. On the other hand, it is unclear how transport has contributed to the spread of COVID-19, and therefore questions remain about how transport policy can help prevent the further spread of COIVD-19. Such a pandemic is not the first case in human history. Recent examples include the Ebola outbreak in 2019, the Ebola hemorrhagic fever in 2014, the H1N1 influenza virus in 2009, the 2005-2016 Zika fever, and SARS in 2003. Unfortunately, it seems that lessons from history have not been well learned. Such pandemics are expected to occur repeatedly in the future.

In order to fight COVID-19 and prepare for future pandemics, it is extremely important to exchange research findings about what are knowns, what are unknowns, what should be done, and what should not be done, about COVID-19 and other pandemics. Experts from the transport, logistics, supply chains, regional development, urban planning, and tourism sectors from different parts of the world must pool their knowledge. To facilitate this exchange, the WCTRS COVID-19 Task Force, established in April 2020, decided to organize an International e-Conference on Pandemics and Transport Policy from December 7 to 11, 2020. We encourage the sharing of lessons learned from history and best practices and/or failures, including, by implementing original surveys and making innovative analyses based on Big Data and Open Data, by conducting collaborative research between transport and public health researchers, by developing innovative policymaking methodologies, by making cross-country comparisons of policy measures, and by making policy recommendations of both immediate measures and long-term strategies. This e-conference will demonstrate a new way of promoting Open Science. We welcome your contributions and participation.

Conference Organizers

WCTRS COVID-19 Task Force

Center of Asian Sustainable Mobility Research (ASMO), Hiroshima University, Japan

Center for Sustainable Development and Global Smart City (SDGS-City), Chubu University, Japan

In collaboration with JST RISTEX Grant Number JPMJRX20J6 and JST J-RAPID Grant Number JPMJJR2006, Japan

Conference program

ICPT-2020-Program_FinalDownload

Notes

The order of presentations at each session may change.

To speakers

Each presentation is assigned 25 minutes (18-20 min for talk and 5-7 min for Q&A).
