Our Members

Tao Feng is a full professor of Urban and Data Science Lab, Hiroshima University. His research interests include decision making analysis in urban environment, dynamic models, behavior change and data-driven technology in urban and transportation planning. He has been an associate professor, an assistant professor and a postdoc researcher in Eindhoven University of Technology during 2008-2021. He obtained his PhD in engineering from Hiroshima University.

Chao Chen is currently a Postdoc. in the Graduate School of Advanced Science and Engineering, Hiroshima University, and also a core member of the Key Laboratory of Intelligent Transportation Technology and Systems, Ministry of Education of China. He received his Ph.D. in Automotive Engineering from Dalian University of Technology in 2023. His research centers on intelligent transportation systems (e.g., optimization) and data analysis. He has been an associate professor in Shandong Jiaotong University and a Postdoc. in Beihang University.

Dr. Ying Zhao is a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Graduate School of Advanced Science and Engineering, Hiroshima University. Her research now focuses on travel behavior analysis, transport system optimization, urban air mobility, and mobility as a service. She obtained her PhD in engineering from Hiroshima University.

Dr. Yan HU is a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Graduate School of Advanced Science and Engineering, Hiroshima University. Her current work focuses on integrating behavioral modeling approaches with emerging mobility technologies to support intelligent transportation systems and future mobility planning.

Zhang Meiqin is a Ph.D. candidate at the Urban and Data Science Lab, Hiroshima University. She earned her Master's degree from Kyoto University, Japan in 2015. She worked as a design assistant at a Japanese design company from 2016 to 2019, and then served as a teacher at Guangdong Environmental Protection Engineering Vocational College in Guangzhou from 2019 to 2022. Her research interests encompass the Built Environment, New Community Redevelopment, Urban Air Mobility.

Mingxi Nie is a Ph.D. candidate in Urban and Data Science Lab at Hiroshima University from 2023, supervised by Prof. Tao Feng.
He holds a B.F.A in Environmental design and a M.LA in Landscape Architecture. He worked as a Research Assistant in South China University of Technology during 2021-2022. His research interests include design and evaluation in built environment, and people travel behaviour.

Jiazhan HU is a Ph.D. candidate in the Urban and Data Science Lab at Hiroshima University. He received a B.S. degree from Beijing JiaoTong University (2019) and an M.S degree in Sustainability in Transport (2022) from the University of Leeds, respectively. His research focuses on Modeling trip chain decisions of urban multimodality.

Lan Ai is a Ph.D. candidate in Urban and Data Science Lab at Hiroshima University from 2022, supervised by Prof. Tao Feng. She holds a B.Eng. in Urban Planning at Shenyang Architectural University in 2015 and an M.A. in Landscape Architecture Studies at Newcastle University in 2018. From 2019 to 2021, she worked as a designer in both the landscape and urban planning industry, such as Atkins and DDON Landscape. Lan’s research interests focus on the built environment, lying at the intersection of active living, active mobility, and the application of virtual reality (VR) techniques.

Zhongwei LUO is a Ph.D. candidate of Urban and Data Science Lab, Hiroshima University. He obtained her B.Eng. degree in Automation from Wuhan University of Technology in 2021 and M.Eng. degree from Hiroshima University in 2023. His research interests include Network Optimization, Data Mining, Multi-Agent Behavioral Modeling and Numerical Simulation, Reinforcement Learning, and Other Intelligent Algorithms.

Ying Liu joined the Urban and Data Science Lab at Hiroshima University as a research student in April 2023. He obtained a Bachelor's degree in Traffic Engineering from Tianjin Chengjian University in 2017 and a Master's degree in Transportation Engineering from Beijing Union University in 2022. From 2022 to 2023, he worked as a teacher at Shijiazhuang Railway Technical College. His research mainly focuses on smart cities and the application of machine learning in transportation.

Hi, this is Tang Hongyu. I'm from China and currently pursuing my studies at the Graduate School of Innovation and Practice for Smart Society. My research focus is on MaaS (Mobility as a Service). Apart from academics, I have a passion for sports, especially racquet sports like badminton and tennis.

Ji Yifeng, entered Hiroshima University in October 2023 to pursue his doctoral degree. He earned an undergraduate degree from Northeast Forestry University in China in 2020 and a postgraduate degree from Central South University in China in 2023. His major is environmental design. His current research focuses on urban thermal environment.

Ning Lyu came to Hiroshima University's Urban and Data Science Lab as a master student in April 2023. She obtained a bachelor's degree in Transportation from Shandong Jiaotong University in 2021, with research primarily focused on optimizing the efficiency of multimodal transportation.

Namazbekova Aiperi, Municipal employee, actively involved in issues of management and development of urban infrastructure. I work in the mayor's office, where I participate in the implementation of strategic programs and projects aimed at improving the quality of life of citizens and the sustainable development of the city. I strive for professional growth and enhancement of competencies to effectively solve problems in the interests of the local community.

My name is TEM PHANIT, and I'm from Battambang, Cambodia. I am a master's student at Hiroshima University's Graduate School of Innovation Practice Smart Society 2024. I joined Urban and Data Science and am supervised by Prof. Tao Feng. My research interest is utilizing machine learning to predict future electricity consumption.

Mengru Shao came to Hiroshima University's Urban and Data Science Lab as a doctoral student in October 2024. She received her master’s degree from Southwest Jiaotong University. The research focuses are on travel behavior analysis and choice model development.

Tang Chuanli is a Ph.D. candidate in the Transdisciplinary Science and Engineering Program at Hiroshima University. She earned her master’s degree from Xihua University and her bachelor’s degree from Chongqing Jiaotong University. In October 2024, she joined the Urban and Data Science Lab under the supervision of Prof. Tao Feng. Her current research interests focus on travel behavior

My name is Lin Dahu.  I completed my undergraduate studies at Tianjin Chengjian University and obtained a Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture from South China University of Technology. My research interests include land use-transportation interactions and the evaluation of accessibility equity. In my free time, I enjoy badminton, photography, and music.

This is Sun yuqi. My English name is Eric. I completed my undergraduate degree in vehicle engineering and, during my senior year, I participated in an exchange program at Hiroshima University in the mechanical engineering department. Currently, I am pursuing a master’s degree at the UDS Laboratory, with a research focus on transportation.

My name is Yan Xinran. I graduated with a bachelor's degree from Shijiazhuang Railway University. I obtained my master's degree from Dalian Maritime University. My research field is TBD now.

HE JiaMing is a doctoral student in Urban and Data Science at Hiroshima University. I received my B.Eng. degree and master’s degree from Dalian University of Technology. My main research focus is transportation optimization and travel behavior.

Chen DU is a doctoral student in the Transdisciplinary Science and Engineering Program at Hiroshima University. She obtained her M.S. in Structural Engineering from Tianjin University, as well as a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Tianjin Chengjian University, China. In April of 2025, Chen DU joined the Urban and Data Science Lab, supervised by Prof. Tao FENG. Her research interests encompass advanced air mobility (AAM) modelling, optimization and data-driven approaches.
