Participated in the 61st Annual Meeting of the Herpetological Society of Japan in Okinawa.

I attended the 61st Annual Meeting of the Herpetological Society of Japan in Okinawa held at the University of the Ryukyus on November 5-6, 2022, together with an student (D2), Bagus Priambodo.

Bagus presented “Population demography of Buergeria japonica based on Genotyping by Random Amplicon Sequencing-Direct (GRAS-Di) methods” (0Bagus Priambodo (ARC, Hiroshima Univ.), Shohei Komaki (Iwate Tohoku Medical Megabank Organization, Iwate Medical Univ.), Makoto Suzuki, Hajime Ogino, (ARC, Hiroshima Univ.)), on the distribution expansion of the Ryukyu sculpin frog (commonly known as the “hot spring frog”), which has a unique tolerance to high temperatures and even lives in hot springs, to the Tokara Islands and its accompanying genome evolution.
Igawa presented a paper entitled “Long-term high temperature tolerance of tadpole of Buergeria buergeri from hot springs in Kawahara, Yuzawa City, Akita Prefecture, Japan, and sympatrical cyanobacteria” by Takeshi Igawa, Makoto Suzuki (Hiroshima Univ.), Haruki Takayanagi (Yuzawa City Geopark), and Hajime Ogino (Hiroshima Univ.). The presentation focused on high temperature tolerance during the growth stage of tadpoles living in hot springs in Yuzawa, Akita Prefecture, Japan, and genome determination of sympatric cyanobacteria.

This was my first time attending the Society of Reptiles and Amphibians in seven years, since the 2014 conference in Kobe, Japan.
