目立つものが苦手になった

美の意識をなされたものより
たまたまの偶然を
よろこばしく思うようになった
ものがものとして生まれる以前の……

何のたくらむところなきもの
真に内なる美しさを持つものほど
多弁でも説明的でもない故に
とことん自由な 澄んだ眼にしか
それは映ってくれないらしい

I don’t know when
I came to dislike showy and gaudy things
I don’t know how or why
I came to like unexpected chances
Rather than something implanted intentionally
By the consciousness of beauty
Something innocent and innate
In the former times before things were born
Existing before the principle of things
Nothing may reflect flawlessly natural beauty
Coming from the bottom of the heart
Better than unbiased and unclouded eyes
Because the internal beauty is not eloquent and explanatory
坦々として波瀾のないもの、企みのないもの
邪気のないもの、素直なもの、自然なもの
無心なもの、奢らないもの、誇らないもの
それが美しくなくて何であろうか
謙るもの、質素なもの、飾らないもの
それは当然人間の敬愛を受けていいものである。（柳宗悦）
