概要

Objective of the course is to understand the causality of major global environmental problems and the history of international countermeasures. Based on the reviews of past experiences on the global environmental policies, successes and failures are firstly clarified for each issue. Then, theoretical and practical dimensions of the challenges for effective global environmental policies from the developing countries perspectives are discussed throughout the course.

This course employs tools of microeconomic analysis to address topics central to development issues in low-income countries. The first 10 weeks concentrate on basic theoretical issues concerning general/rural markets and each player’s behavior. The final 5 weeks address issues relating to rural household model, rural credit and poverty.
The course will acquaint students with modern microeconomic theories as applied to several issues of concern in developing countries. On completion of the course students who attain the appropriate standard will have:
-Gained familiarity with issues and basic theoretical tools of analysis in modern development microeconomics.
-Be aware of the techniques for analyzing rural markets, contracts and behavior of peasant households.
