Our presentations at the 70th Annual Meeting of the Chugoku-Shikoku Branch of the Japanese Society for Agricultural Chemistry (JSBBA), Hiroshima University, 25 January 2025

As a regular member of the JSBBA, the Laboratory of Plant Physiology and Biochemistry has contributed four major studies to the 70th Annual Meeting of the Chugoku-Shikoku Branch of the Japanese Society for Agricultural Chemistry (JSBBA). The workshop was hosted by the Graduate School of Integrated Sciences for Life, Hiroshima University on 25 January 2025.

Hiroshima University Officially Launches Hiroshima University Global Campus Institute – Vietnam Office

On October 4, 2024, Hiroshima University (HU) officially inaugurated its Satellite Campus – Vietnam Office at Thai Nguyen University of Agriculture and Forestry (TUAF) in Thai Nguyen City, Vietnam. Professor Tran Dang Xuan has been appointed as the Director in charge of the Vietnam Office.

On the same day, HU and TUAF also held an opening ceremony for the Joint PhD Program in Agriculture, one of the key academic functions of the Vietnam Office. This fall semester, Xuan LAB proudly welcomes its first student in the program, Mr. Hoang Kim Thanh.

In a series of events that day, HU and TUAF hosted a formal celebratory banquet at the Vietnam Government Guest House, witnessed by Mr. Ito Naoki, the Ambassador of Japan in Vietnam, and Ms. Vu Chi Mai, Consul General of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in Fukuoka, Japan. Representatives from the Vietnamese government, as well as universities, research institutes, and major corporations from Japan and Vietnam, were also in attendance.

Mr. JABBAR MUHAMMAD Won the Golden Prize for Outstanding Master’s Thesis in the TSE Program

On August 13, 2024, following a well-written Master’s Thesis and outstanding presentation, Mr. Jabbar Muhammad was awarded the best prize for his Master’s Thesis in the Transdisciplinary Science and Engineering (TSE) Program at the Graduate School of Advanced Science and Engineering, Hiroshima University.

This recognition is a testament to Mr. Muhammad’s hard work throughout the Master’s course. We do hope that this achievement will inspire him in his future endeavors and serve as a significant milestone in his journey.

Xuan Lab celebrated a welcome party to greet new members in the spring semester 2024

On April 7, 2024, Xuan Lab organized a welcome party to greet new members. In the spring semester 2024, our lab is delighted to welcome two new students, Mr. Ngo Duy Dong (Ph.D. course) from Vietnam, and Mr. James Kibuye (Master’s course) from Kenya.

Furthermore, from this semester, we are pleased to announce the new positions of our lab members, Dr. Nguyen Van Quan and Dr. Nguyen Van Thinh have been appointed as Assistant Professors. Additionally, Dr. Tran Thien Long has been engaged in our lab as Postdoctoral Researcher.

Our presentations at the 2024 Annual Meeting of the Weed Science Society of Japan (WSSJ) – March 28–29, 2024.

As a regular member of the Weed Science Society of Japan (WSSJ), the Laboratory of Plant Physiology and Biochemistry has contributed two major studies to the 2024 Annual Meeting of the WSSJ (日本雑草学会第63回大会). The workshop was hosted by Utsunomiya University.

The presentation list is as follows:

  1. Tran Dang Xuan and La Hoang Anh. Implementation of conventional and smart weed management strategies in sustainable agricultural production (Presented on March 29, 2024).
  2. La Hoang Anh and Tran Dang Xuan. Variation of allelopathic momilactones A and B in commercial rice varieties and their potential for weed-suppressing effect. (Presented on March 29, 2024).

In this semester, Mr. Hasan Mehedi (Ph.D. student) and Mr. Muzammil Mohammad Zaman (Master student) from Xuan Lab received their graduation certificates. Mr. Muzammil Mohammad Zaman Achieved the Silver Prize for Outstanding Master’s Thesis in the TSE Program

On February 13, 2024, the Graduate School of Advanced Science and Engineering, Hiroshima University held the final presentation session for Master’s students of the Transdisciplinary Science and Engineering (TSE) Program. Our lab member, Mr. Muzammil Mohammad Zaman, has been awarded the silver prize for his outstanding Master’s thesis. The evaluation was based on his excellent presentation and the high quality of the thesis.

This award recognizes his relentless effort throughout the Master’s course at Xuan Lab. We believe that it will provide significant encouragement for him to achieve even greater accomplishments in the future.

We sincerely congratulate Mr. Zaman on his remarkable achievement and wish him continued success on his journey ahead.

Mr. Rayee Ramin achieved the 2023 Hiroshima University Excellent Student Scholarship

Our lab is pleased to announce that Mr. Rayee Ramin, a first-year doctoral student at our lab, has been granted the “2023 Hiroshima University Excellent Student Scholarship” from the Graduate School of Advanced Science and Engineering, under the recognition of the President of Hiroshima University.

This scholarship acknowledges the outstanding grades and research achievements of the student. The recognition is a testament to Mr. Ramin’s unwavering effort and dedication.

Dr. NGUYEN VAN QUAN has been honored with the prestigious Phoenix Outstanding Researcher Award by Hiroshima University

Our lab is delighted to announce that Dr. NGUYEN VAN QUAN received the Phoenix Outstanding Researcher Award granted by the President of Hiroshima University in 2023. The award is bestowed upon exceptional young researchers, recognizing their significant contributions to the university’s scientific accomplishments.

Dr. NGUYEN VAN QUAN worked as Assistant Professor in our lab from April 2020 to March 2023 and is currently a Researcher in the lab. Through his dedication and unwavering efforts, Dr. NGUYEN VAN QUAN has been highly regarded for his works and research activities, as evidenced by publications in SCI journals and the guidance of graduate students at Hiroshima University.

Dr. NGUYEN VAN QUAN is the second member in our lab to receive this prestigious award after Prof. TRAN DANG XUAN (Head of the lab), who was honored for two consecutive years in 2017 and 2018.
