Research purpose

This research aims to develop planning and policymaking methodologies for country-specific and culture-sensitive border town/region development and explore how border towns/regions should be developed in the future.

国境まちの発展は異文化交流の促進による地域平和だけではなく、国境を跨る開発によって地域経済の成長や生活の質の向上にも大きく寄与する。途上国では多くの場合、国境まちは開発が遅れている地域である。グローバル化による越境開発が進められている中で、越境開発によって地域文化の喪失が懸念され、国境まちのあるべき姿が問われている。本研究では、多様なコネクティビティ（文化交流、観光、交通、貿易、資本、資源、環境、情報、グローバル社会、国境を越えたソーシャルネットワークなどからみた多様な連帯関係など）を有する国境横断型まちづくりの視点からアジア途上国の国境まちのあるべき姿を提示し、それを実現するための方法論を開発する。

Research contents

To investigate transport, trade, cultural exchange and tourism, resources and capitals, daily life activities in and between border towns/cities

国境まちのあるべき姿とは何か、それを如何に実現できるかが本研究の核心をなす学術的問いである。本研究では、地域・都市計画、人文地理学、国際協力学、国際貿易、観光、市民生活、リスク分析、GIS・リモートセンシング技術などの研究者からなる学融合型研究体制を構築し、メコン流域諸国（中国、ベトナム、ラオス、ミャンマー、タイ、カンボジア）の代表的な国境まちを対象に、そのまちづくりの実態を踏まえ、(1)人文地理学や地域研究の視点からみたまちの文化的変容（まちの文化的遺伝子）の解明、(2)市民生活行動学からみた越境生活・観光の実態把握、(3)越境環境問題（中古車取引を含む貿易、廃棄物処理）の実態把握、(4)対象国の国内外における多様な利害関係者によるグローバル・ガバナンスに基づく国境まちの発展戦略、(5)国境横断型まちづくりのための学際型・部門横断型アプローチの開発などを主な研究内容として研究を行う。
