“Geospatial Technologies for Environmental Monitoring and Sustainable Development”

Introduction: Ram Avtar is an Associate Professor at Hokkaido University and Director of the Global Land Program Japan Nodal Office. He is an internationally recognized researcher whose work focuses on land systems and co-designing solutions for global sustainability. His research applies geospatial techniques and machine learning to monitor terrestrial ecosystems and the climate–change interface, contributing to several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He has led and contributed to major international projects and published extensively in leading journals. This lecture will provide valuable insights into the role of geospatial technologies in supporting sustainable development and environmental management.
